HAR KI DUN 6N/7D

Har ki Dun is the name of a gorgeous valley nestled in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand. The valley of Har-ki-Dun is located at the base of Fateh Parvat, at an altitude of 3,556 meters and promises a stunning view of the famous Bandarpuch range and Black Peak. Har ki Dun is classified as a hanging valley (essentially a low area between hills or mountains often with a river running through it.) One can see the magnificent Swargarohini peak in the background upon reaching the valley. Legend has it that Yudhishthira, the eldest Pandava crossed the peak on his way to heaven! Also, you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful Jaundhar glacier.

*in the Mahabharata it is mentioned that the Pandavas during their final journey in the Hilmalayas died one by one, due to the sins committed by them in their lifetime. It was only Yudhisthira, the eldest, known as the man who never spoke a lie, who managed to survive the harsh terrain and severe penance, ultimately reaching the heaven via the Swargarohini or the “stairway to heaven”.

An amalgamation of rich flora and fauna and remote villages, the valley makes for an exciting trekking trail and a great birding sight. You will also come across the rare ancient temple dedicated to Duryodhana on your way to the top! This historical valley will leave you spellbound with its ethereal lush greenery in summers and glistening snow in winters. One of the oldest trekking trails of India, Har ki Dun is an experience not to be missed by any nature lover and trek enthusiast and because of its fairly moderate terrain it is truly a beginner’s delight!
